It is with a profound sense of loss and deep sorrow that the African National Congress in the Eastern Cape has received the news of the passing on of the ANC Dr WB Rubusana Regional Deputy Chairperson and Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality MMC for Corporate Services , Comrade Ntombikayise Tom earlier this morning at the East London Private Hospital after succumbing from injuries sustained in a shooting incident at the gate of her NU9, Mdantsane home on the evening of the 9th January 2024.
A committed political activist in her own right , she is the wife of the late NUMSA President , Cde Mthuthuzeli Tom.
The untimely departure of Comrade Tom
leaves a staggering blow to the African National Congress and will be mostly intensely felt by her comrades at Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality where she served in the Mayoral Committee , the ANC Dr WB Rubusana Region and the ANCWL wherein she served as the RWC member.
With Comrade Kayise Tom’s passing the ANC and the broader Congress movement has lost a dedicated servant of our people and an ardent advocate for equality in line with our movement’s vision of a non-racial, non-sexist, democratic and united nation.
Our sorrow cannot however compare with that of her closest family and friends, who borrowed her to our movement and
our people, to them we owe a deep debt of gratitude for having shared Comrade Kayise with us. The perpetrators who were involved in the shooting of Cde Kayise must be brought to book, and we call on law enforcement agencies to speed up its investigation .
The African National Congress sends its sincere condolences to Comrade Ntombikayise Tom’s family, relatives and friends. It is our hope that they can find some solace during this very difficult time in the knowledge that their loss is shared by us, the comrades and friends she worked tirelessly with her in the African National Congress.
May her revolutionary sou rest in eternal peace!
END….
