The African National Congress in Eastern Cape convened an extended Provincial Election Team (PET) meeting on the 25th July 2016 to receive an update on the state of readiness ahead of local government elections and to process the remaining key concerns for each region.
The meeting further received the state of readiness for the upcoming Provincial Siyanqoba Rally, which will be held at Absa Stadium in East London in Dr W.B. Rubusana Region on Sunday, 31th July 2016.
The Provincial Siyanqoba (we are winning) Rally embodies a demonstration of strength and confidence of a decisive victory in all municipalities that we currently govern as well as winning new municipalities from opposition parties who have dismally failed to advance the progressive agenda of fundamental socio-economic transformation for the people.
All systems are in place for a successful rally and all those who wish to come to the event are encouraged to do so, and those without transportation can contact their nearest ANC Offices. With few regions left to consolidate the training of party agents scheduled to be completed tomorrow, the meeting unanimously agreed that the organisation is ready for the elections.
On the course of electioneering, the province witnessed an emergence of foreign tendencies, where some used the name of the SACP to attempt to contest the ANC. In this regard, the ANC fully welcomed the position by the SACP to distance itself from such behavior and intervention to deregister the use of the name of the SACP with political ends that are contrary to the resolutions of the Party.
As such the ANC wishes to reiterate that the SACP and all other alliance partners continue to be in full support of the African National Congress towards the elections at all levels. The meeting also welcomed the views by the ANC Treasurer General, Cde Zweli Mkhize that the tripartite alliance still stands firm to serve the poor people of this country.
Heading towards the Provincial Siyanqoba rally all regions throughout the Eastern Cape will be conducting various activities aimed at consolidating our mobilisation, which include Door to Door, Community Meetings, mini-rallies and Motorcades. Alliance structures are also expected to up their game through a series of campaigns that will assist ANC moving to the rally on Sunday.
NB: The Statement must be attributed to the Provincial Secretary Oscar Mabuyane.
