The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape express serious reservations and concerns on the worsening situation at Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality with Acting City Manager receiving threats on her life. These threats smacks of male chauvinist behaviour that can’t withstand a strong woman administrator at the helm of a serious institition like NMM. This is an act of both cawardice and criminality.
We call on law enforcement agencies to investigate this matter and a democratic state cannot allow intimidation and threats to government officials by rogue elements.
Worse has been the removal of the Acting City Manager without any merit and through illegal means. This approach should be rejected by any organization that respects the rule of law.
We strongly appeal to EC Provincial Government to decisively intervene and ensure that stability and good governance in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is restored.
The ANC PEC had mandated the ANC Caucus in Nelson Mandela Bay not to support illegal appointments and decisions and to put the interests of the people of Nelson Mandela Bay first and work with all parties in council to address the challenges confronting the municipality.
PEC deployees will also be working closely with the ANC structures in the Region and the ANC Caucus in the Municipality to strengthen the ANC’s capacity to provide effective and decisive leadership that betters the lives of our people.
