The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape dips it’s revolutionary banner in memory of the late struggle stalwart, Comrade Nombulelo April.
Comrade Nombulelo April, a former SAMWU shop steward whilst working at Butterworth Municipality in the early 90’s played a prominent role in mobilizing workers under the banner of the labour Federation (COSATU). In a lifetime dedicated to the achievement of South Africa`s liberation, Cde April demonstrated fortitude in the face of adversity and responded selflessly to the sacrifices demanded of her.
A political activist from a young age, Comrade Nombulelo April fought to ensure that women were an integral part of the liberation struggle and should assume their rightful place in society.Comrade Nombulelo April served in the NEC of the ANC Veterans League, PEC of the Veterans League and Provincial Integrity Committee of the ANC in the Eastern Cape.
She has left an indelible mark and will be fondly remembered for her care and compassion for others and the dedication with which she served her community and the liberation movement over more than four decades
As we bid Mama April farewell, we should renew the revolutionary values and traditions of the ANC-led Alliance as espoused by her generation.A generation that knew that a non-racial, non-sexist and prosperous South Africa will be made possible if we alter and change the colonial character of our economy as guided by the Freedom Charter.
The ANC in the Eastern Cape sends its heartfelt condolences to the April family, the ANC Veterans League and the entire community of Mnquma.
