ANC EC WELCOMES HIGH COURT JUDGEMENT ON FORMER WARD COUNCILLOR MURDER CASE

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Eastern Cape has welcomed the High Court of South Africa (Eastern Cape Division) sentence to two life imprisonment of former ANC Ward Councillor in the Winnie Madikizela-Mandela Local Municipality, Mr Lucky Bethwell Mbuzi for the murders of two ANC members.

The two ANC members , Comrade Hleliphi Mashusha Thotshe and Comrade Mduduzi Madikizela were both shot and killed on the 10th March 2021 and 16 April 2021 respectively. Law enforcement agencies investigations led to the arrest of Mbuzi, along with two young men aged 23 and 29. The firearms that were used to commit the two murders were recovered from Mbuzi and were ballistically linked to the offences.

The ANC has never lived with nor tolerated political assassins and we want to congratulate the investigating team, the prosecution and the judge for the good work done in ensuring that this heartless murderer is going to languish in jail for a longtime for an act of cold-blooded murder of our comrades. The successful prosecution of this former councillor is a demonstration once more that this country cannot afford crime in whatever form and irrespective of who commits it.

We hope that this verdict will mark a turning point in the fight against crime, and that all those facing serious charges of murder and crime will face the full might of the law.

The renewal of both our organization and our country is in high gear.

ANC asingomqolomba wezihange nezigebenga- zonke izigebenga mazigxothwe zinyevulelwe lilizwe nendawo esihlala kuzo.

END….
