ANC EC welcomes the victory of SASCO in WSU

Issued by the Office of the ANC EC Provincial Secretary

As the ANC in the Eastern Cape,  we welcome the overwhelming victory of SASCO in WSU yesterday.

We have observed the in routes made by the opposition in recent SRC elections in the province, we believed it is just a confusion and a temporal setback. The ANC took a decision to engage PYA to bring it to an end. We convened the PYA in the province after Fort Hare loss and in our frank discussions,  we agreed that no more loss of SRC elections to DA student movement and any other student movement not aligned to the ANC, it must be corrected and the next SRC elections in any campus must be a turning point.

We have done so successfully in WSU last night. SASCO and everyone else who was involved worked very hard to secure that victory.  ANC government is working very hard to transform education and more effort is now put towards access to universities by poor students. Thousands of learners have access to NSFAS to pay fees, transport, accommodation and food, this is the service we provide and no other organisation has ever done so. Therefore there is no confusion, those achievements must be secured.

We thank the majority of students who yesterday have observed what the ANC government does for them by keeping SASCO to lead the student struggles in WSU.

We intend to do more political work in all these institutions to reclaim them back. SASCO must continue to correct the confusion brought by DA.

We congratulate SASCO for the good campaign. We are now confident in our space.

The statement must be attributed to Cde Oscar Mabuyane, the ANC EC Provincial Secretary.
