With deep sorrow and a profound sense of loss, the African National Congress has received the sad news of the passing on of one of the longest serving ANC Regional Organizers, Cde Themba “Tshezi” Nontlantana. Ubaw’ Tshezi as he was affectionately known.
He has served the movement since the 1970s when he was recruited into the ANC underground operations, he was later recruited into Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) in the early 80s and received military training in the then USSR and Cuba.
Cde Nontlantana was part of number MK operations including the joint MK and MPLA operation against UNITA forces in Angola. Comrade Nontlantana has served the ANC as organizer since the unbanning of the ANC, a task he was passionate about and excelled at, such that even at time of his untimely passing he was still serving as the ANC Regional Organizer in the O.R Tambo region.
His passing on has robbed us of one of our comrades who had worked tirelessly for our liberation of our people. Ubaw’ Tshezi made his lasting contribution by not only fighting for our liberation but also through his contribution in building ANC structures post 1994.
We would like to convey to his family, friends and colleagues our most sincere condolences. Lala ngoxolo Tshezi, Jalamba, in you we have lost a teacher, an organizer, a freedom fighter and indeed, a revolutionary par excellence.
