Issued by the office of the ANC provincial Secretary
The ANC calls for calm and for a mature way of handling disagreements in Baviaans municipality between its leadership and the workers of the municipality.
We strongly condemn the beating of the Mayor by anyone and we further state that violence will not benefit anyone as it widens divisions.
There is no need for the workers to beat up the Mayor at all. Doing so, which is illegal in this country, will not benefit the workers at all. The workers must use proper and legal channels to have their issues resolved by the Mayor and the municipality.
The municipality must deal with all issues experienced by the workers properly, with the urgency they deserve because they impact their lives.
We call for peace between the Baviaans Mayor, Municipality and its workers because it is only when there is peace where rational will prevail when discussing the issues on the table. Violence is the enemy of our democracy and has no place in building better communities.
