GCIS encourages public participation during SONA 2019

The President of the Republic will deliver the State of the Nation Address on the 07 February 2019, in the joint seating of both houses of the legislature, i.e. the National Assembly and Council of Provinces.
GCIS plays a pivotal role in ensuring that public participation, and access to information, which are fundamental pillars of our democracy, are deeply entrenched in.

Furthermore, GCIS creates an opportunity for engagement to ensure that communities participate in the State of the Nation’s Address and understands the Programme of Action of the government broadly.

It is against this background that GCIS is embarking on creating awareness on SONA to the Eastern Cape community. Communities will have an opportunity to view SoNA speech and deliberate on the highlights of the speech through interactive dialogues.

The dialogues held in various parts of the Province will include a variety of stakeholders, various thought leaders at local level as well as various government leaders at local level.
