Overdue consumer debt in Nelson Mandela Bay amounted to R3.149 billion at the end of December last year, according to the mid-term Budget and Performance Report to be submitted to council at the end of this week.
The total does, however, include just over R1 billion that has been owing for up to 30 days.
The report shows that of the total amount owing to the municipality, R1.244 billion has been outstanding for over one year, R327.7 million for between 181 days and one year, and R95.9 million for between 151 and 180 days.
The report reveals that nearly R1.8 billion of the debt was owed by households, nearly R1.3 billion by commercial enterprises and R66.4 million by organs of state.
