The African National Congress (ANC)in the Eastern Cape welcomes the 5.6% improvement in the matric results by the Class of 2018.
As we join the province celebrating this improved performance and all the learners who passed their Grade 12 in 2018, we are proud that some of the top performing learners come from the rural schools of our province.
We are convinced that these results are an outcome of hard work, dedication, commitment and sacrifices made by learners, parents, educators, officials of the provincial department from the late former MEC Mandla Makupula and the Head of Department.
The great work and commitment by the late MEC of Education, Cde Mandla Makupula placed our Province in a better position as we have seen an improvement of 5.6% from 65.8 % in 2017 to remarkable 70.6% .May his soul continue to rest in peace.
We want to thank the teachers for their continued hard work and dedication in educating these learners from the first to the last Grade. Education cannot be seen as a reserve for teachers alone; parents and communities within which schools are located have a responsibility to play their part in the education of their children. Parents complement teachers’ efforts to help learners.
We call on the Provincial Department of Education, its partners and the class of 2019 to keep on improving in areas where there is a need, especially in areas where we are continuously receiving poor results.
While we are celebrating this success, we encourage those who did not pass their matric not to despair and to work harder in the supplementary examinations and in the second chance they will succeed.
