ANC EXTENDS ITS BEST WISHES TO THE MUSLIM COMMUNITY ON EID AL-ADHA

The African National Congress (ANC) sends its best wishes to the Muslim community as they celebrate Eid Al Adha. We join the Muslim community in rejoicing in this celebration and conveys its message of peace and goodwill to all.

Every year, Muslims celebrate Eid al-Adha to remember Ibrahim’s loyalty and obedience to Allah above all others. And because of Ibrahim’s actions, Eid al-Adha is also known as the Festival of Sacrifice.

The giving of charity in the form of food or clothes to the homeless or poor is one of the key traditions of Eid al Adha.

Muslims celebrate in different ways from performing pilgrimage, wearing nice clothes and going to the mosque in the morning for special prayers. Later, family and friends get together for a big meal with lots of delicious food, including sweets.

This year and due to the COVID 19 regulations imposing social distancing many of these celebrations may not be possible. It could just be with immediate family or might be celebrated online.

We call on the Muslim community to celebrate safely by wearing masks, observing social distancing, frequently washing hands and staying at home.

The ANC urges the Muslim Community and other people of faith to pray hard and work tirelessly for the defeat of Covid-19 and its devastating effects.

May Eid bring happiness and peace in your lives.

Happy Eid al-Adha!
