The African National Congress (ANC) in the Sarah Baartman Region has received the shocking news of the shooting of Ward 1 Councillor in his house at Moses Mabida Kirkwood last night.
The shooting of Clr Payi represents barbarism of the worst kind. We strongly condemn this incident, as it has no place in our democracy.
Clr Payi is an activists who have the community’s interests at heart. We are gratefull that he is still alive and that the firearm jammed on trigering the second shot.
We call on all members of our movement and the broader community of Moses Mabida and Sundays River at this stage to be calm. We also strongly call on our law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in their efforts to apprehend the perpetrators of this ultimate act of cowardice.
We wish Clr Mandile Payi speedy recovery
