ANC SARAH BAARTMAN REGION, EC MOURNS THE PASSING OF CDE SIPHOKAZI TANA

The African National Congress (ANC) in the Sarah Baartman Region mourns the passing of young vibrant and an activist within the structures of the organisation, Comrade Siphokazi Tana, affectionately known as “Spoky” amongst her peers.

Cde Tana was born and bred in the Makhanda and went through the local schools from lower primary until her completion of Matric at Ntsika Senior Secondary School. During that period she started her political activism and consciousness by being involved in student organisations such as Cosas. Her influence and the ability to mobilise led her to ANC/ ANCYL whereby in 2006 she formed part of the youth that was entrusted with a responsibility of rebuilding ANC Youth League across Sarah Baartman Region, formerly known as Cacadu Region. Cde Tana was elected in the ANC Youth League Regional structure where she served diligently for many years. Not only has Comrade Tana distinguished herself as a disciplined cadre of the ANC, she served the ruling party with distinction in various capacities where she was deployed. Her ability to mobilise and down to earth approach led her to be deployed as an Administrator in the Parliamentary Constituency of Makana and with her enthusiasm she turned that office to a home in providing service to the people of Makana.

Currently, she was serving her second term as an ANC REC member and RWC member. We have seen her strides and efforts in the Women League structures and she is serving in the ANCWL Regional Task Team as well as ANCWL Provincial Organising Committee. She was very much instrumental in the formation of Young Women’s Desk in Makana, as we have seen her organising young women to create a space for themselves within the organisation and find relevance.

No amount of words or speech could describe a sense of loss that has befallen the people of Makana Sub-region; Sarah Baartman Region and the Province at large. We pride ourselves of having encountered her simplicity and humility – her readiness to roll up her sleeves and work in the interest of other people.

We send our sincere condolences to her children, family, relatives and friends she made across … May her beautiful soul rest in eternal peace

ISSUED BY THE AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS-SARAH BAARTMAN.
